7 Walls

Addressing vacant lots that exist in urban fabric, this project involves a hypothetical site in downtown Cincinnati that is 50’ in width 50’ in height, and 100’ in depth. On the longer sides of the site are existing structures that fill a similar volume. To the front is a busy street and to the rear is a pedestrian exclusive park. The program of the project includes four distinct spaces: entry, aggregation, study, and overlook. Defining these spaces are seven structural elements or walls each serving a different purpose: light, information, demarcation, storage, occupation, energy, and boundary. The project receives influence from the context of Cincinnati and its many hills, its form being directly developed from the shape of the city’s topography. Each of the seven elements are expressed through shape or material and serve their unique functions.
