The Viclek Foundation is a non-profit arts institution located on the Upper East Side whose mission is to “raise awareness of immigrant contributions in America and foster appreciation of the arts and sciences.” Part of their collection includes manuscripts, awards, and large format works that needed to be stored on site as part of daily operation. The archive accommodates these items by renovating existing cabinetry and bookshelf elements to better fit the foundation’s needs. Millwork is constructed of douglas fir with lockable glass doors. Sliding pocket doors conceal flat file storage and adjustable shelves. Manuscript boxes are stacked on quarter inch bronze shelves with an eased edge for convenience when retrieving and putting away files.
